FTL celebratory lunch

On a very cold Saturday on the 2nd December we held our special lunch for our families and friends.  Fortunately the church was lovely and warm when I arrived to set things up and on this occasion we did not have a raffle but asked our guests to bring something for the table.  As you can see it was pretty well laden and after I took the photo more and more goodies arrived as our guests signed in.  I brought some salad leaves, dressing and tangerines and as the clock ticked by and nobody was arriving near the magic hour of 12 noon (very ‘High Noon’) suddenly the guests started to wander in and my lettuce offerings were very soon overwhelmed with the most amazing selection of savoury and sweet dishes plus if you look carefully a bottle of Baileys was also on offer alongside other drinks.

We entertained about 35 people and it was such a joyous occasion.  People mingled and our kids, as kids do, found a table where they could chat at ease as parents enjoyed meeting up.  Often the meet-ups are on Zoom but it was great to actually meet in person.  It makes such a difference and to be honest the time just flew by and before we knew it 3.30 came around and we all said our goodbyes.

We were so lucky too that Helen, who works at the church, did the washing up.  You’d be amazed how many plates, mugs, knives and forks there were to wash up and Helen was brilliant.  There was bits left over so I took the trolley and made up little party bags for people to take home and the rest was left behind including most of my lettuce!!  The next day there was a lunch at the church so the lettuce was going to a very good home.

I made a little speech about how fantastic it was to see so many families and children and friends at our lunch. It was a special way to start the month of December off with laughter and warmth.
