Families Together London is a London-based support group for the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. Many parents, families and friends find it difficult to deal with finding out that a child, family member or friend is LGBT, and find it hard to support them. We may not have all the answers, but, between us, we have all been through these experiences. Why not read some of our stories, and those of parents elsewhere. Who we areOur group and website are run by parent volunteers. We do not hold professional counselling qualifications, but we recognise that many parents have questions or fears which they want to talk about. Talking with other parents who have had similar experiences can be really helpful. Our children range in age from early teens to mid-forties.To read about Marjorie Smith, our website and education expert, who died in February 2011, click here.
What we doWe hold two meetings every month in London for parents, family and friends - one in Battersea and one in King's Cross. Meetings are confidential, and offer a safe place in which to talk. If you're interested in attending one of our meetings, just contact us. We also give talks, hold an annual fundraising lunch, and march at Pride.
Our aims
At Families Together London, we aim to support parents and families who may have questions about the gender identity or sexual orientation of their sons or daughters.
More generally, we work towards a society that offers fair and equal treatment for lesbian, gay and bisexual people, as well as those with with gender identity issues or who are transgender. |
