Families Together London is a support group based in London for the parents of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. The group and the website provide support and information for...
…the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends…
…of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people...
...because...
...no-one comes out alone...
...and because, if you want to help, you'll want to find out more about it.
We also support the parents of children with gender identity issues.
- Has your son or daughter just told you they are gay or lesbian?
- Do you think he or she might be gay or lesbian, but they haven't spoken to you about it yet?
- Do you have a young child who doesn't conform to his or her gender?
- Has your child told you that they feel they're in the 'wrong' body and would rather be the opposite sex?
We may not have all the answers, but, between us, we have all been through these experiences. Who we areOur group and our website are run by parent volunteers. We don't hold professional counselling qualifications, but we
recognise that many parents have questions, worries or
fears which they want to talk about. Talking with other parents who have had similar
experiences can be a great help.
Our children range in age from early teens to mid-forties. 'I felt such relief to be able to be honest with another parent like myself who empathised with me.'

What we do
We hold monthly meetings for parents, family members and
friends. These meetings are confidential, and offer a safe place in
which to talk about our feelings. Two parents take part in the information and support lines scheme organised by FFLAG (Families and Friends of
Lesbians and Gays) - our national umbrella organisation.
We network closely with many related organisations and contribute to government consultations.
We publicise our work with pamphlets and posters in local libraries, GP surgeries and schools throughout London. For copies, see below.
Our aims
At Families Together London, we are working towards a society
that is respectful of diversity and which offers fair and equal
treatment to lesbian, gay and bisexual people as well as those with gender identity or transgender issues.
We try to play our part in achieving this by sharing our experiences
with other parents, family members and friends. We learn as much as we
can, including from each other and our children, so that we can help to
inform other parents as well as the wider community.
As parents, we work in whatever way we can towards making the world a
more informed and accepting place for our sons and daughters.
'Everyone is an insider. There are no outsiders - whatever their beliefs, whatever their colour, gender or sexuality.'
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
