FTL on Marlow FM, once again

I totally forgot when I was visiting my daughter in Bristol that I had agreed to take part in a live two hour phone-in on Marlow FM. We were driving back to London when I got a text asking me to confirm my participation. Fortunately it was in a week’s time and I wasn’t committed to other things on the morning of the programme in question.

Live radio is very different from something that is pre-recorded and I was a little hesitant at first, but as the minutes swept by I began to enjoy the mixture of questions which listeners rang in with, discussion, music and news bulletins and forgot that I was actually ‘on air’. I shared the programme with Lorna Mcardle from www.supportu.org.uk, who I had met ‘virtually’ in June on Marlow FM. It was very interesting to discover that both she and I agreed on so many things and when she responded to some question I felt she had answered for me too.

Emma-Jane Taylor (https://emmajanetaylor.life/) had another guest during the programme. He is a poet and he had written, specifically for this LGBT programme, a beautiful piece of poetry. His name is Michael Bourton and you can read his other poetry on his website.

Here is the poem for us…

LGBT

We often use letters to shorten

In expression or just words

But it doesn’t change just who I am

That would be quite absurd

You see I am just what I am

Don’t label me as something else

I’m comfortable as a person

And not what they all tell us

Respect is key to everything

And my gender’s part of that

Just because I’m not like you

Not where you are sat

I’m proud as well to stand up

And wave my flag for me

For you as well if that’s what you want

Whatever makes you free

Free to focus on living life

Free to stand up tall

So whatever your sexuality

Join me

We are humans after all

I hope you found the above poem moving. I know I did when he read it out.
